Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) ensures that products are produced and controlled consistently according to quality standards. GMP minimizes the risks involved in any food or non–food production that cannot be eliminated through testing the final product. GMP covers all aspects of production, including materials, premises, equipment, training, and the personal hygiene of staff. In Malaysia, MS 1514:2009 GMP is the requirement standards defined by Ministry of Health Section of Food Safety & Quality Division which aim to upgrade the level of standards of food and non–food manufacturer in producing safer food, cosmetics, and health supplement as well as traditional medicine.

  • What is GMP?

    GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) regulations require a quality approach to manufacturing, enabling companies to minimize or eliminate instances of contamination, mixups, and errors.  This protects the consumer from purchasing a product that is not effective or even dangerous. Failure of firms to comply with GMP regulations can result in very serious consequences including recall, seizure, fines, and jail time.

    GMP regulations address issues including recordkeeping, personnel qualifications, sanitation, cleanliness, equipment verification, process validation, and complaint handling. Most GMP requirements are very general and open-ended, allowing each manufacturer to decide individually how to best implement the necessary controls. This provides much flexibility, but also requires that the manufacturer interpret the requirements in a manner that makes sense for each individual business.
